North Rhinns Camping

North Rhinns Camping is a small, adults-only site near Stranraer, with seven tent pitches, three pitches for small campervans and one glamping pod. Its setting combines open camping ground with woodland, offering a small-scale alternative to a larger touring park. Electric hook-ups are available on seven pitches, and facilities include a toilet and shower block. Dogs are welcome, while fire pits can be hired for evenings around a campfire. The season runs from 1 March to 30 November, with online booking available.

For a woodland outing, Aldouran Glen at Leswalt has paths following a burn, small waterfalls and an ancient hillfort, with views towards Loch Ryan from the higher ground. The paths are unsurfaced, with some steep sections, and can become muddy and slippery, so suitable footwear matters. At the edge of the village, Aldouran Wetland Garden has a boardwalk and bird hide adjoining the woodland, giving visitors another way to explore the local habitats.

Stranraer’s Castle of St John adds a historical stop: built around 1500 as a tower-house residence, it later served as a military garrison and a Victorian jail. For a wider excursion along the peninsula, the Mull of Galloway reaches Scotland’s most southerly point. Its nature reserve combines heathland, grassland and sea cliffs, with spring and early summer particularly rewarding for wildflowers and breeding seabirds. These are outings away from the campsite rather than features of the site itself.
