Crakaig Loth Campsite
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Grass and dune pitches overlooking a sandy beach give Crakaig Loth Campsite its semi-wild character. Also known as Crackaig Beach Campsite, this small coastal site outside Brora sits on the North Coast 500 driving route, with open views across the North Sea. Tents and smaller campervans are welcome, although the narrow tunnel on the approach is an important restriction for anyone arriving by vehicle. The beach is the main attraction here, whether for a walk along the shore or simply time spent beside the sea.
Facilities are basic, with a toilet and shower block but no drinking water or electric hook-ups, so campers need to arrive prepared. Campfires are permitted, and firewood can be bought from the owner. There is no advance booking: visitors arrive, choose a pitch and pay when the owner calls round. The campsite’s March-to-October season makes it an option for coastal touring from spring through autumn.
Brora has shops, pubs and restaurants for supplies and meals away from camp. For a longer walk elsewhere along this coast, the Brora-to-Golspie route starts at Brora railway station and follows beaches, dunes and field edges, passing Dùn Liath broch and the shore below Dunrobin Castle’s gardens. At Golspie, the Big Burn offers a contrasting woodland outing, with footbridges crossing a gorge on the way to a waterfall. These are separate excursions rather than routes starting at the campsite.
